Pete retired in 2008 after his wife, Beth, took a job working for the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina.  Pete sought out new ways to share his gifts, including volunteering for the Inter-faith Food Shuttle, an non-profit organization that seeks to support neighbors in our community for whom access to nutritious food is a barrier. IFFS not only provides necessary food to those in need, it offers educational opportunities and hands on experience in growing healthy and nutritious foods in community gardens. 

As part of his retirement, Pete devoted more time to learning Spanish and put that knowledge to work in volunteering as an ESL instructor and working with hispanic children in the public schools.  Most significantly, Pete combined his storytelling passion and his love of the Spanish language and people in ten years of volunteering with the Honduras Health Mission, sponsored by the Episodical Church. 

In the last ten years Pete became a instrumental facilitator with Braver Angels, a national program started in 2016 with the goal of bringing together individuals from both political parties to find common ground to work together for the betterment of our country.
