Staying Alive in Bear Country is the final work of Peter Crow — a longtime English professor, radio storyteller, and devoted hiker of the Blue Ridge. It gathers a lifetime of trail stories, family adventures, and hard-won wisdom into a single, generous tale.

A teacher, a storyteller, a mountain soul. Peter "Pete" Crow spent 35 years on the English faculty of Ferrum College, where he helped shape the school's liberal-arts identity and was named the Forrest S. and Jean B. Williams Distinguished Professor in the Humanities. In 2003 he received the National Outstanding Educator Award from the United Methodist Church Board of Higher Education.
